Finca Idealista Pacas & Caturra Carbonic Maceration
My Friend's CoffeeDo you like rare brews? Do you like carbonic maceration? Do you like unique varietal marriages? (How about rhetorical questions, do you like those?) Well, you're in luck because this guy hits every mark and then some.
Hailing from Finca Idealista, one of the premiere farms in Nicaragua, this nanolot is a carbonic macerated marriage of Pacas and Caturra. Its production was an extra-mile affair. Idealista used refractometers to check for ripeness, PH meters to check for balance, and agricultural intuition built from years of farming to this coffee to life. It's a stunner of a brew that balances fruit, funk, and complexity. It also reps Nicaragua with pitch-perfect flare.
Concord grape is the CEO here. You catch it instantly, and it stays dominant across temperatures. The acidity smacks of pineapple, and it’s a worthy supporting player. Venturing beyond the fruit, you get into what makes this coffee so unique: a host of baking spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. There’s something about the pairing of the grape and nutmeg. It’s striking, distinguishing, and damn delicious. Also worthy of a hat tip is the dense, sticky, sugary finish that recalls dates.
Bottom line: This is a rare lot stunner. Brew it as pour over. Sink it in a French Press. Plunge it in an Aero. You can’t go wrong.
