Melon, Hazelnut, Cocoa

This coffee does a bang-up job representing one of the world's most prolific growing origins. It comes from the Rancho Grande Farm in Tres Pontes, an outfit that was founded way back in the 1930s. Over the years, the Rancho Grande folks have earned a sterling reputation, not just for coffee, but for a fierce commitment to sustainable practices and employee welfare. And that's pertinent to you, dear consumer, because good coffee grows great when great people are behind it.

This lot underwent an unusual process characterized by controlled fermentation. 60 hours—that's how long the lot spent sun drying. But solar power wasn't enough for the Rancho Grande folks, so they went overboard, wrapping the coffee to prevent unwanted oxygen intrusion. The result is a clean natural cup—no funk, all flavor.

Melon sweetness forms the core here. It's lovely, unusual for the origin, and it nods to the coffee's 60 hour sun drying habit. True to traditional Brazilian tones, there's also a nutty quality—hazelnut to be precise. And it overlays spectacularly with a cocoa-like mouthfeel.

This guy kills it in just about every brew method, from pour over to aeropress to single origin espresso. It's a wonderful coffee that's hard not to love. Get it while it lasts.
