Champagne Truffle, White Chocolate, Sweet Tarts

Panama's Elida Estate stands among the most celebrated in the world. Their crops regularly dominate the Best of Panama competition, and in 2019, their Natural Geisha set new price records, selling for upward of one thousand dollars per pound. This coffee ranks as one of their best-known offerings (it's also priced mercifully lower than their wallet-busting Geisha offerings).

Typically coffee descriptions start with flavor notes, but this Catuai deserves a prologue about vibe. It brews a soulful cup, sweet and deep right alongside bracing and tart. The dominant note is champagne truffle. White chocolate strides alongside it, lending decadence. As the cup cools, lighter notes emerge: sugary fruits paired with tart acidity a la Sweet Tart candies. It's a rich cup with just enough levity to balance its depth. If you haven't tried an Elida coffee, this is a great place to start. If you have, it's a worthy addition to the Elida canon.
